U-Shaped Kitchen Inspiration

I have been on the hunt for inspiration lately for my u-shaped kitchen. Every time Erika Powell posts a picture of her kitchen, I am inspired. I sit there and try to figure out how to use her ideas in my own kitchen rehab. Could I paint cabinets? I want my cabinets raised up. Could I remove cabinets to have open shelving. It would look really weird and our kitchen is so small, I don’t know if I would be okay with losing any storage space. Plus, unlike Erika, we don’t actually have a walk-in pantry. I grabbed the same counter stools before she did (I got my inspiration from August Fields months ago) and I’ve already got all the stainless appliances and wood floors.

Thus, more thinking is required. I think white cabinets, unless someone can make a strong case for turquoise or green (yes, still on that subject now almost a year later). I think painting the cabinets a color would require that I remove some of my cabinets and just throw stuff out. Argh. This requires more brain cells than I have available.

Lots to think about, that’s for sure.

Keeping It Clean

We’ve had a tough year with allergies. Because of the eleven months of rain the Pacific Northwest endured, hubby seemed to suffer more than the usual itchy eyes, runny nose, and endless bouts of sneezing.

About midsummer, I figured out that we needed to spend more time cleaning. So we did. We hired help though. Carpet cleaning, window cleaning, floors scrubbed, shower/tub deep clean, and paying attention to the dust bunnies that hide everywhere they possibly can.

Did it help?

I think so. I hope so. With the weather changes in 2011, and expected repeat in 2012, I would like my husband to be able to not have to live under the haze of heavy drugs all next year too.

But we also sent him to an allergist, and now we finally know what we are dealing with.

And yep, the dust bunnies were definitely part of the problem. Plus, we like spending time in our house now!
